Welcome Statement
Welcome to the Sri Lankan Society of Bedfordshire — a vibrant and inclusive community where the rich culture, traditions, and heritage of Sri Lanka are celebrated and shared. We are proud to bring together individuals and families from all backgrounds who have a connection to or appreciation for Sri Lankan identity. Through cultural events, social gatherings, and charitable efforts, we aim to create a welcoming space that fosters unity, understanding, and a strong sense of belonging for Sri Lankans and friends of Sri Lanka alike.
Our Mission
To preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka within Bedfordshire, while building a supportive and inclusive community that celebrates diversity, encourages lifelong connections, and contributes to the well-being of both local and Sri Lankan communities.
Our Vision
To build a vibrant and united Sri Lankan community in Bedfordshire — one that honours its heritage, strengthens connections across generations, and contributes meaningfully to both local society and communities in Sri Lanka.
Our Story
The Sri Lankan Society Bedfordshire is a young yet passionate organisation, officially established on 4th February 2022 — a day of deep national significance for Sri Lankans. It was founded by a group of NHS healthcare professionals in Bedfordshire, united by a shared commitment to celebrate and promote the richness of Sri Lankan culture.
Since our formation, we’ve worked closely with the Sri Lankan High Commission in London and have successfully hosted a range of cultural, charitable, and promotional events across the region. In just a short time, we’ve brought together Sri Lankans in and around Bedfordshire, creating a strong platform for connection and community.

Our Journey So Far
Since our founding in 2022, the Sri Lankan Society Bedfordshire has proudly:
- Organised cultural events across Bedfordshire, celebrating Sri Lankan heritage through music, dance, food, and community gatherings.
- Collaborated with the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, including:
— Jointly organising the Sri Lankan High Commission stall at the Bedford River Festival — the second-largest outdoor event in the UK. This was the first time a High Commission participated in the festival, and we proudly showcased Sri Lankan culture there for two consecutive years. - Led impactful charitable missions in Sri Lanka, including:
— Donating medical equipment and essential medicines to rural healthcare institutions
— Building a classroom facility for a remote school in the Anuradhapura District, improving access to education
— Implementing a clean water filtration project in a rural village affected by high rates of chronic kidney disease, helping reduce illness caused by polluted water - Established a strong, inclusive community platform for Sri Lankans in Bedfordshire to connect, support one another, and celebrate shared values
- Promoted unity and cultural awareness while maintaining a non-political, non-religious identity
